A crucial point for Delhi NCR businesses: Delhi, Gurugram (Haryana), and Noida (UP) are different GST states. A Delhi company invoicing a Gurugram client must charge IGST — not CGST+SGST — because Haryana is a different state from Delhi. Similarly, a Delhi supplier to a Noida client charges IGST (UP being a different state). Only invoices within Delhi itself get CGST + Delhi SGST. This is frequently misunderstood by small businesses in Delhi NCR. All three locations share the same area code but are legally different GST jurisdictions.
Example
A Delhi IT company invoices: Client A (Delhi) ₹5,00,000 — CGST 9% ₹45,000 + SGST 9% ₹45,000 = ₹90,000 GST. Client B (Gurugram) ₹5,00,000 — IGST 18% ₹90,000. Client C (Noida) ₹5,00,000 — IGST 18% ₹90,000. All three invoice totals: ₹5,90,000 each — same tax amount, different tax type.
